ICAMT 50th Annual Conference – Taiwan 2024 – Recap Conference, News

On March 20, 2024, the Call for Submissions for the 50th Annual Conference of ICAMT was announced.
Let’s wrap up this unforgettable event!
Organized by – ICAMT / The National Museum of Prehistory, Taiwan / Taiwan Museum Association, ROC (TMA)
Co-organizers – National Museum of History (NMH), Taipei / The National Palace Museum, Taipei / Tainan Art Museum, Tainan / Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum, Kaohsiung
When / Where – Taitung and Taipei, Taiwan, 6-10 October. Post Conference tour, 11 October
Title – ENCOUNTERING TRANSITION – Reshaping Museum architecture, exhibition design and techniques in response to global/local changes.
Sub-Themes
The main theme was explored through three sub-themes:
#1 – Cross-Cultural Museum Architecture
#2 – Exhibition Design – tangible, intangible and digital: current tendencies
#3 – Museum Techniques & Sustainability
Keynote Speakers
- Jou Min Lin AIA – Principal architect of J.M. Lin Architect / The Observer Design Group
- Marco De Mutiis – Digital Curator, Fotomuseum Winterthur – Switzerland
- Paulina Florjanowicz, PhD – Director General, National Institute for Museums, Archaeologist, expert in cultural heritage management
Contributions
- 24 Oral speeches (on-site paper presentations – max. 15 minutes. Two presentations took place online)
- 3 Digital posters available at the dedicated website
- 21 Highlight sessions (on-site “Ignite Talks”, 5 minutes to talk accompanied by 20 slides, 15 seconds each)
- 1 Roundtable –”Museum Architecture and Technique for Better Lives: Humanity, Technology, and Sustainability”

- Shiro Sasaki (National Ainu Museum, Japan)
- Sirin Yuanyaidee (Director of Kanjanaphisek National Museum, Thailand)
- Chang-Hwa Wang (Board member of ICOM-ICAMT/ The former Director of the National museum of History, Taiwan)
Moderator – Futuru C.L. Tsai, Director of the National Museum of Prehistory, Taiwan
Participants
140 people from twenty different countries registered to the conference. The number of attendees varied daily as the conference took place in two different venues/cities: Taitung and Taipei.
Reserved field trips were prepared for all ICAMT members, speakers, Keynote speakers, participants and moderators in Kaohsiung City and Tainan.
Grants offered
Three grants were announced through our communication channels and two were given by our committee to eligible candidates.

Both attended the conference onsite and delivered a post-conference report and documentation of their expenses covered by the committee.
